چکیده

Raman forward scattering of a high-intensity, short-duration, frequency-chirped laser pulse propagating in an underdense plasma is examined. The growth of the direct forward scattered light is calculated for a laser pulse with a linear frequency chirp in various spatiotemporal regimes. This includes a previously undescribed regime of strongly-coupled four-wave nonresonant interaction, which is important for relativistic laser intensities. In all regimes of forward scattering, it is shown that the growth rate increases (decreases) for positive (negative) frequency chirp. The effect of chirp on the growth rate is relatively minor, i.e., a few percent chirp yields few percent changes in the growth rates. Relation of these results to recent experiments is discussed.

Chirped-pulse Raman amplification for two-color, high-intensity laser experiments

We report generation of millijoule-level Stokes (873, 961 nm) and anti-Stokes (738, 685, 639 nm) sidebands of 800 nm terawatt pulses by inserting a multistage Ba NO3 2 Raman shifter-amplifier into a conventional Ti:sapphire chirped-pulse amplification system. The Raman subsystem requires no additional pump lasers and does not compromise the energy, duration, or beam quality of the main 800 nm p...

Coherent control of stimulated Raman scattering using chirped laser pulses

A novel method for the control of stimulated Raman scattering and hot electron production in short-pulse laser-plasma interactions is proposed. It relies on the use of a linear frequency chirp in nonbandwidth limited pulses. Theoretical calculations show that a 12% bandwidth will eliminate Raman forward scattering for a plasma density that is 1% of the critical density. The predicted changes to...

Measurement of Forward Raman Scattering and Electron Acceleration from High-Intensity Laser–Plasma Interactions at 527 nm

High-intensity laser–plasma interaction experiments were performed using high-power laser pulses (greater than 8 TW) at a wavelength of 527 nm. These pulses were focused to intensity greater than 10 W/cm into underdense helium plasma at a density of 5 10 cm . Systematic examination of the forward Raman scattering instability was performed by measuring the spectrum of the forward scattered light...

Numerical Simulation of an Intense Isolated Attosecond Pulse by a Chirped Two-Color Laser Field

We investigate theoretically the high-order harmonic spectrum extension and numerical generation of an intense isolated attosecond pulse from He+ ion irradiated by a two-color laser field. Our simulation results show that the chirp of the fundamental field can control HHG cutoff position. Also, these results show that the envelope forms of two fields are important factors for controlling the re...

High spectral resolution multiplex CARS spectroscopy using chirped pulses

A simple technique for achieving high spectral resolution coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) spectra with a femtosecond laser system is presented. A linearly chirped and stretched ( 10 ps) pump pulse generates CARS signal only when overlapped in time with the Stokes pulse (90 fs), creating a ‘temporal slit’ that defines the spectral resolution of the technique. Multiplex CARS spectra ...
